 “Live Brief Project - TASKMASTER”
Film Production,
Set & Spatial Design,
Film/Photography
(2026)
This project was a response to a ‘Live Brief Project’ with a British TV show called ‘TASKMASTER’. A comedy game show where contestants undertake different, unique tasks to win first place for an unexpected prize.

From crafting and building set designs, to filming and producing original videos/photography, our group (Ayana Ideue, Jung Hyun Kim, Rachel (Hwaim) Hyun, Ranya Bouchtat, Smyra Arora) went over different experimentations and practices in order to create a new structure that can be placed within the ‘TASKMASTER’ show, and learn what it is like to think and work as a show production team.

Structure | “ TASKMASTER JUDGE’S BENCH”

Summary:
Our group’s main focus was to explore how absurd shifts in height and elevation could allow contestants to temporarily assume, distort, and even abuse positions of authority. As a result, we recreated the courtroom judges’ bench, a structure that has a symbolic meaning of power and changed the original height of the bench into three different versions: small, medium, and large. Creating a new structure that could potentially shift power dynamics in unexpected ways within the ‘TASKMASTER’ show.

Task Experimentation | “PLEAD TO ALEX”

Summary:
To test the structure’s functionality, we created a short film of an original task to experiment how the structure would be used within the ‘TASKMASTER’ show. From filming, editing, casting, to post production, experiencing what it is like to go through the process of a real-life film production.

The task is called ‘Plead To Alex’, where two contestants each stand on one lower/higher bench and debate against each other over a case, pleading their opinions to fake Alex Horne (one of the hosts from the original ‘TASKMASTER’ show) that there are right. For this task, the case was: is it right or wrong to tell your friend you’re “on the way” when you’re actually not?
