Kangaroo rats are small creatures that live in the desert. However, one special thing about these animals is that they don’t drink any water, but consume moisture by eating dry seeds. This fascinating information started to make me wonder, what if this ability of the kangaroo rat was used as a reference to create a new design or a new identity? Possibly a new mascot?

‘WCS Official Mascot: Kangaroo Rat’ is a world-building project, creating a fictional world where all of the water supply in London has dried up, and is run by an authoritarian government called the ‘Water Conservation Society’ (a.k.a WCS). ‘Kangaroo Rat’ is the official mascot of this ‘WCS’ society, where the animal’s special water ability is used as the main reference to approach different sectors of design and the water scarcity issue. How could this animal’s identity or ability be implemented as into the food, toy, or technology industry, impacting different audiences in various ways? And, how could this animal potentially become a mascot that can be referred to and persuade people to become more like a ‘Kangaroo Rat’?
